TravelBird was an Amsterdam-based online travel agency (OTA) that offered curated short-break and holiday packages at promotional prices, targeting European leisure travelers seeking attractive deals. Founded in 2010, the platform raised over €20 million before suspending operations in October 2018 following the failure to secure emergency funding, at which point it employed approximately 310 people.
TravelBird primarily served European consumers looking for deal-driven holiday packages, city breaks, and short trips. For hotels and accommodation providers, it represented a European leisure demand channel, particularly relevant for properties in popular short-break destinations. Its model was closer to a curated deals platform than a broad-inventory OTA.
Following its insolvency in late 2018, UK-based luxury travel club Secret Escapes acquired TravelBird's brand, IT platform, and customer base and relaunched the website. Properties interacting with TravelBird as a distribution channel today are effectively connecting through Secret Escapes' infrastructure. Travelers who had booked through TravelBird prior to its collapse were covered by SGR (Stichting Garantiefonds Reisgelden), a Dutch travel guarantee fund. Connectivity partners and channel managers should confirm the current integration status of this channel before activating.
