What OpenKey Does
OpenKey is a mobile key platform purpose-built for hotels. It enables properties to send guests a digital room key before they arrive, accessible from the OpenKey mobile app or a hotel's branded app. The system uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to communicate with door locks.
Integration with Hotel Lock Hardware
OpenKey integrates with lock systems from major manufacturers including ASSA ABLOY, dormakaba, SALTO, and Allegion, meaning hotels don't necessarily need to replace their existing locks.
PMS Integration and Check-In Flow
The platform connects with property management systems to trigger key issuance automatically at check-in time. Guests receive a push notification when their room is ready.
Security Model
Digital keys issued through OpenKey are time-bound and revocable — they expire at checkout and can be invalidated remotely. The BLE communication is encrypted.
